I WOULD like to congratulate the Wharf on its tenth anniversary. As a long standing member of the Wharf?s support group Friends of The Wharf (FOTW), I would have liked to have seen some acknowledgement of this organisation which is also ten years old this year. Most months, at the FOTW committee meeting, CAM asks for sums of money, small and large, and we are usually able to oblige. FOTW has raised thousands of pounds through subscriptions and fund raising activities. Over the last two years alone, we have given CAM at least £12,000. Most of the money raised has been donated to CAM for, among other things, replacing equipment, refurbishments, a salary for a part-time worker and some of the printing costs for the Wharf?s poetry magazine. As well as being a fundraising organisation, in the early days. FOTW organised rotas for members stewarding and working the box office which was vital to the Wharf. I hope the Wharf continues to be supported by the local and wider community (a number of Friends live outside Tavistock). If the Wharf had recognised our supportive role we may have inspired ?non-Friends? to join, thus increasing FOTW numbers which would have been of benefit to the Wharf.
