I MUST say a big thank you to Peter Boyce for putting in writing (September 29) what everyone experiences who has the misfortune to travel our streets where parked cars are allowed to park on main thoroughfares double yellow lines or not. It is only a matter of time before a serious accident happens and whose fault will it be? I am absolutely astounded by the parking in Ford Street, Tavistock; I have seen cars mounting the pavement, narrowly missing pedestrians, in order to pass traffic leaving the town centre. The Highways Department must be aware that this is happening, why else would the street sign that once stood on the pavement edge be relocated away from the kerb? Frustration and road rage is evident, judging by the faces and hand gestures I see from nearly all drivers using this road. It comes as no comfort at all to learn that dozens of new dwellings are to be built on the outskirts of town off the Launceston Road which will only make this situation worse. I have noted that the cars causing the obstruction, in the main, are not residents of Ford Street but visitors, workers or shoppers who could use alternative car parking facilities. If any local councillors or county highways planners are reading this letter please take these comments on board and do something about this crazy yet self-inflicted on-street parking problem before there is a serious incident. G R Webster websters@treetops19. eclipse.co.uk AFTER another harrowing experience this morning trying to drive from the junction of Spring Hill with Ford Street, Tavistock, to past the junction with Chapel Street, I felt compelled to write and ask through your columns, why the local authority has not placed yellow lines down both sides of this hazardous road. I hope it is not going to take someone to be seriously injured or worse before they act. The traffic was backing up and a green 4x4 mounted the pavement to allow the gridlock to break. I have also seen cars mount the pavement here in frustration at some speed and this is a major pathway to Tavistock Primary and the College. What a pleasure on Goose Fair day to be able to drive through this road with no parked cars. About six months ago I spoke to the traffic warden and he agreed it was becoming dangerous and thought some action was going to be taken. What is the relevant authority doing about this?
