HELP save our Bull-Nose Morris — that is the plea from the curator of Okehampton's Museum of Dartmoor Life.

Maurie Webber says this delightful piece of vintage transport, built in 1922, has been on display in the museum since 1981. However, now the owners of the vehicle want to sell it.

'They have kindly given us first refusal,' said Mrs Webber.

'We have the promise of a grant so long as we can raise more than £2,000.'

She said the unusual Bull Nose Morris had been owned by an Okehampton family since the 1950s.

'It has been in the area since then. It is unique in as much as it has been converted into a farm pick-up — and is very representative of farm ingenuity.'

Mrs Webber said the vehicle was a popular item with all the schoolchildren that come to the museum. It was also a hit with vintage vehicle enthusiasts who visit the premises.

'I think it would be a very sad loss to the museum and its collection if it went. It would be especially sad for the youngsters who like to blow the hooter!'

Mrs Webber hopes the public may be interested in helping to ensure the vehicle can stay at the museum —and maybe come up with fund-raising ideas to help save it.

'We want to save it and would like the public to come forward and contact us with some ideas and some help. We are going to be in touch with the Bull Nose Morris Association in the hope that they might be able to help.'
