HELP is needed for a German Shepherd dog who will soon be blind in both eyes if he does not receive the treatment he needs.

Eight-month-old George was handed over to Okehampton-based Devon German Shepherd Rescue team, suffering from cataracts in both eyes.

His owners, from Redruth, were unable to afford treatment after being told his operation would cost between £3,000 to £4,000.

Co-ordinator for Devon GSD Rescue, Lin Lines, said George was already completely blind in one eye.

She said: 'I had a phone call about a blind eight-month-old German Shepherd from Redruth that no-one wanted.

'The owners couldn't afford the treatment and were devastated.

'He has travelled so far because none of the other charities were interested.

'He is so sweet and came to be called George because he is Gorgeous George.

'We are a tiny charity and don't turn anything away — if we can help them, we will.

'The last six months have been crazy — at one point we had more dogs than we knew what to do with.

'We are desperate for foster homes and homes for the dogs.'

Mrs Lines said she will foster George at her home in Bideford until he recovers and is rehomed.

She added: 'We are appealing to people and will be organising fundraising events especially for George.'

The charity has rehomed more than 100 German Shepherd dogs since it started two years ago.

Anyone who may be able to help or who wants to donate towards George's operation can phone Lin on 01237 425354.
