THE Tavonians Theatre Company held its annual meeting last week — and announced plans for three productions during 2009, as well as a series of workshops.

Anton Chekhov's atmospheric play 'The Cherry Orchard' is to be given in village halls in and around the Tavistock area at the end of April and early May. The production will be directed by Geoff Whipp who has recently moved to Tavistock.

Geoff said: 'Although portraying Russia of over a hundred years ago, The Cherry Orchard is such a relevant play today, as its story is one of great social and cultural upheaval with juxtaposed changes in fortune.'

Auditions have taken place but anyone interested in being involved, on-stage or off-stage, may still find there are options available and can contact Ali Fife on 01822 810897, [email protected]">[email protected] Geoff Whipp on 01822 615568, [email protected]">[email protected]

There are also plans in the pipeline for 'Midsummer Madness' a cabaret/review in June, upstairs at The Ordulph Arms, to be directed by Steph Reese. The November production will be another in the series of Farndale Avenue farces, following the great success of the Farndale Avenue Murder Mystery two years earlier and it will again be directed by Stuart Waterworth.
