TWO events are taking place next week as Hatherleigh gears up for the tenth anniversary town festival. This year?s pre-festival events, whetting the appetite for the main event, are a performance by Hatherleigh Players and an afternoon classical concert. Hatherleigh Players will be serving up a large helping of farce, when they present ?Love Begins at 50? written by Raymond Hopkins. The play, a modern story of marital complications, is being directed and produced by Bernard Jones. The play is being performed in the town hall on Friday, July 1, and Saturday, July 2, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the festival box office on 01837 810624. On Sunday, July 3, acclaimed pianist Lindy Tennent-Brown and superb young flautist Daniel Parkin will perform a scintillating variety of classical music. Both have appeared with numerous orchestras and will be playing a 4pm concert at Lower Pulworthy. The festival proper gets underway the following week with events over four days in various venues around the town. Among the top attractions at this year?s event are comedian Andy Parsons, Zimbabwean acappella group Black Umfolosi and the Miracle Theatre?s performance of ?The Case of the Frightened Lady?.
