TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club?s first game of the week was a high profile men?s home match against Devon Patron?s Association. The Patrons won the match 103-97 with each side winning three rinks. Tavistock skip Mike Allen and his crew of David Perry, Barry Chappell and Derek Bradford won 18-12, while club captain Norman Paramor led his team of Vic Stacey, Pat Sykes and Ray Meneer to a 19-12 victory. Skip Ron Cooper and his team of Walter Meek, Geoff Cork and Frank Welch won their rink 25-4. Losing skips were: Malcolm Bloomer (14-17) Der Saunders (11-29) and Roy Northam (10-29). Tuesday saw the men?s team travel to Plymouth Central Park to face Beacon Down in the Foxlands Trophy, a competition involving teams playing a different match format on each rink. The Two Wood game was won by the opposition when Tavistock player George Blackburn went down 18-21. Tavistock player Clive Jago won the Four Wood game 21-7. Mike Allen, Derek Bradford and Norman Paramor went down 8-20 in the Triples game, while Ernie Piper, John Smith, Der Saunders and Skip Roy Northam won the Full Rink 17-16 and David Perry and Malcolm Bloomer won the pairs match 22-15, to give Tavistock an overall winning score of 86-79. The men?s County Trophy home game against Peverell Park ended in a 94-54 win for Tavistock when they won all four rinks. Skip Mike Allen and his squad of Norman Paramor, Vic Stacey and Brian Lamb won 33-11, when they restricted their opponents to scoring on only six ends of the game. Skip Roy Northam and his team of Bill Ashe, Brian Davies and George Blackburn won 21-14. Skip Clive Jago steered his team of Der Saunders, Ernie Piper and Barry Chappell to a 20-16 victory. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of David Perry, John Smith and Harvey Leach ? playing in his first match ? won 20-13. The ladies? section two-rink home match against Plympton resulted in a 31-25 win for Tavistock ladies, with skip Sue Silcox and her team of Shirley Blackburn, Betty Browse and Hazel Lovell winning 18-11. Skip Marion Allen and her crew of Joan Northey, Viv Powell-Thomas and Marlene Paramor lost 13-14, after their opposition picked up one shot on each of the last five ends of the game. Thursday saw two ladies rinks visit the Civil Service Reds team in Plymouth for a league match which Tavistock lost 40-37. Skip Yvonne Meneer and her team of Sue Silcox, Jenny Aldridge and Jill Lacayo won 22-20, but skip Marion Allen and her team of Marlene Paramor, Joan Northey and Hazel Lovell went down 20-15. The men?s evening league match against Dean Cross ended in an 83-79 victory for Tavistock, after they won three rinks and lost one. Skip Mike Allen and his team of Frank Welch, Vic Stacey and Norman Paramor won 26-15 and skip Clive Jago and his squad of Barry Chappell, Der Saunders and Ernie Piper won 21-20. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of John Smith, George Blackburn and Brian Preece emerged 23-14 winners while skip Ray Northam and his crew of Mike Felles, Brian Davis and Bill Ashe lost 12-30. A Tavistock mixed team travelled to neighbours Bere Alston for a six-rink match that ended in a 120-112 win for Bere Alston, despite Tavistock winning four of the six rinks played. Skip Ray Northam and his squad of Ray Meneer, Albert Townsend and Patricia Hoar won 20-18 and skip Marion Allen aided by her team of Stuart Doidge, Rob Powell-Thomas and George Blackburn won 19-17.
