I WAS so very pleased to read Mrs.Byworth's letter (March 2) about the state of the Meadowlands play park.

How the play park could possibly have been neglected for so long, I do not know. For a council which seems to have very strong views on health and safety, it is remarkable how the park could be in such a sorry condition.

When I lived in Plymouth, I often came all the way to Tavistock to take my children to the park. They had a wonderful time playing in a very beautiful, clean and safe enviroment.

I live in Yelverton now,and find myself hardly coming to the park any more. There just is not enough there for the children to enjoy.

I find it amazing how a council somehow fails to notice the relatively small things like a broken see-saw or a roundabout. Maybe they are just not important enough — after all, who would want to sit in the Meadows on a nice sunny day and watch children play ?

All I can say is that I am glad to live in Yelverton because people here have recognised the importance of parks, and have worked very hard so we can soon enjoy something that might slightly remind us of the 'old' Meadowlands play park before it got so very neglected!
