A TAVISTOCK-based film production company has scooped top accolades at an international film festival.

Longbow Productions won the prestigious platinum award for investigative journalism at the Houston International Film Festival for its documentary Blind Eye to the Butcher, transmitted by Carlton TV last summer.

The programme told the story of a former head of internal security in Bahrain who stands accused of human rights abuse by Amnesty International.

Tavistock?s Tom Keene, managing director of Longbow who wrote and produced the programme, said: ?It?s nice to have one?s work appreciated by fellow-professionals ? the award came as a complete surprise!?

Graham Smith, commissioning editor of Carlton TV in Plymouth, said: ?We?re absolutely delighted. This is a prestigious international award that reflects great credit on the team that put the programme together.

?Platinum ranks above gold, so for us it?s a real benchmark award for serious investigative journalism.?

Tom Keene, former director of production at Television South West, formed Longbow Productions in 1992. The company has produced programmes for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 ? it also specialises in the production of drama-based marine safety training programmes.
