A FORMER well-known Milton Abbot cricketer and his wife celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary.
Ernest and Edith Masters, 93 and 91 respectively, were married at St Mary's church, Kelly, on July 25 1931.
Edith, who was born in Whitchurch, said they met at a dance in Tavistock. But she said it was not until five years later that Ernie proposed to her.
The couple lived at Milton Abbot, where Ernest was born, for most of their lives and have a son and daughter, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ernest was employed by the Duke of Bedford as a forestry worker in the various woodlands in the Tavistock area and Edith worked on a local farm at Kelly.
During the war, Ernest was in the fire service and helped the Home Guard around the area.
A well-known cricketer in Milton Abbot, he was a good churchman and sang in the choir.
The couple now live at Moorgate Residential Home in Horrabridge, where there was a special celebratory tea.
