A PROJECT to display heritage plaques on a variety of buildings and sites of importance in Tavistock, came a step closer last week when members of the town council?s finance committee agreed a proposed colour and design. Councillors decided the plaques should have a deep blue background colour ? they were happy with the design proposed by a firm which manufactures the plaques. The town council last month learned it had won a grant of £5,000 from the Countryside Agency to progress the scheme ? around 20 plaques are expected to be erected at various sites throughout the town before the end of the year. The money from the Countryside Agency has to be spent by March 31, so the plaques will now be ordered, to enable the scheme to progress as quickly as possible.
