DETAILED plans are to be drawn up for an £800,000 redevelopment of land in Tavistock?s Pixon Lane, following a meeting in the town last week. The scheme would see the creation of a new 113-space car park on the town council-owned site, a new works depot, two rentable business units and a service road on the undeveloped land, which is currently used by cattle market lorries. The council?s properties committee last Tuesday heard the scheme would have to be financed by two loans, as the council is only permitted to borrow £500,000 per financial year. However, the scheme was based on ?belt and braces? costings and the total redevelopment of the site could well fall below the £800,000 mark. It was also possible that the Public Works Loans Board could sanction a bigger loan, which would work out cheaper than two separate ones. The committee agreed unanimously that an initial investment should be made, enabling plans to be drawn up and a planning application for the scheme submitted to West Devon Council. The decision was due to be ratified by the full council at its meeting on Tuesday night.
