THE Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton asked local people to help the manager and volunteers take its next step and help plan a museum makeover at the weekend.
On July 4 the museum was open free of charge so children and families could look around and give their views about what the museum does.
Adults and children were able to explore the whole museum and say what they liked and what they did not like about the museum's displays. Children were encouraged to choose and draw their favourite object. The drawings will be put on display and the best one won a free family ticket to the museum for two years.
Manager Andrew Thompson said: 'A growing number of families use the museum and enjoy the activity trails and fun days we put on.
'But we want to go much further in making the museum interesting and exciting for children and young people. So we are planning to make big changes in the next few years in how we display objects and the stories we tell about them.
'The museum aims to tell 'the people's story' of Dartmoor and Okehampton. So we really need the community's help to make the museum show objects and tell the stories local people want to learn about and enjoy.'
There will be more opportunities to join in the museum events in the coming months. Details will be available on the museum website http://www.museumofdartmoorlife.co.uk">www.museumofdartmoorlife.co.uk
