AFTER the news was confirmed recently that Tavistock’s New Look store would be closing next month, plans are in place for it to be replaced by a Mountain Warehouse store.
The firm, which sells outdoor clothing and equipment, submitted a planning application to West Devon Borough Council on August 13 for advertisement consent for a set of letters for fascia and one projection sign for 3/4 Pearl House on Elbow Lane, currently housed by New Look.
New Look head office confirmed the Tavistock store’s closure and stated the last day of trading would be Thursday, September 13.
There have been mixed reviews on social media about the possibility of Mountain Warehouse coming to the town. One person commented: ‘I wonder how well Mountain Warehouse will do here, especially after Kountry Kit went. But I guess Mountain Warehouse is cheaper stuff and will be in a better location.’
Another said: ‘At last a sensible shop for the area’ and someone else commented ‘another boring shop’.
Mountain Warehouse was contacted for comment but did not reply before the Times went to press.
