CHANGES to West Devon?s blueprint for planning will be published for consultation this week.

The West Devon Local Plan went to a public inquiry last year and almost 1,900 representations ? both objections and support ? were considered.

West Devon Borough Council has accepted 95% of the inquiry inspector?s recommendations in whole or part and the proposed modifications to the document will be available to view for a six-week period from today (Thursday).

Overall, the council has made no changes to its housing strategy and has agreed with the inspector that 35% of all new housing is to be affordable to those in housing need.

There are no significant changes to housing sites in Tavistock or to the number of houses proposed for Okehampton.

The plan continues to allow some development in smaller communities.

There is also a commitment to regularly monitor the increasing traffic in Okehampton, keeping under review the possibility of changes to the road network.

Cllr Margaret Garton, chairman of the council?s future planning and housing committee, said: ?We are very pleased to have reached the final stages of the Local Plan process.

?I hope people will take the opportunity to look at the modifications because it is important to the future planning of the borough.?

Modifications to the plan will be available for inspection at the council?s offices in Oaklands Drive, Okehampton and Kilworthy Park, Tavistock until September 23.

The plan can also be viewed in Okehampton and Tavistock libraries.

The changes can also be viewed on the council?s website at http://www.westdevon.gov.uk">www.westdevon.gov.uk
