NEW roads and services planned for an industrial site in Okehampton, which could support up to 500 jobs were unveiled this week.

The South West RDA has submitted a planning application to lay roads and services at its newly expanded employment site at Exeter Road industrial estate.

The RDA bought the 26-acre site last summer and plans to develop a range of fully serviced plots creating new employment for the town.

Speaking about the site, Stephen O?Higgins, South West RDA regeneration consultant, said: ?Ensuring the site has first class roads and services is an essential part of the development work.

?We?ve had enormous success with the first phase of Exeter Road industrial estate and we are confident this new site will prove just as popular, opening up much needed employment land in Okehampton which will be marketed to new and expanding companies both locally and outside the region.?

David Incoll, chief executive of West Devon Borough Council, said: ?This site was vital to ensure new job opportunities for the growing population of this super town, which has the double advantage of being in the centre of Devon and on the A30 with easy access, both within and outside the region.

?The borough council has been delighted to work with the Regional Development Agency to ensure a quality development is provided in terms of appearance and the facilities it offers potential tenants.?

Subject to planning permission, the work is expected to start shortly and should take six months to complete depending on weather conditions.
