TAVISTOCK men?s hockey team travelled to Penzance on Saturday, missing almost half their regular players, including captain Nick Aveyard.

The good news for Tavistock was that they kept their third clean sheet in a row in the league and as a result move up to second place.

The bad news was that having failed to take their chances in front of goal, although Tom Honey, Kevin Lethbridge and Nick Andrews were all denied by some excellent goalkeeping, Tavistock let their control ebb away as their usual structured game deserted them.

Thankful for the defensive abilities of Pete Cooley and Roger Holden, both drafted in from the seconds, Tavistock managed to deny the Cornishmen any clear shots at goal.

Penzance seemed the happier side as the final whistle signalled Tavistock?s first goalless draw for a long time. They were left to reflect on the succession of penalty corners that went unconverted in the first half.
