A ROAD in Horrabridge will remain closed for approximately eight weeks so a sewer can be enlarged. Station Road was closed by Edmund Nuttall Ltd last Monday (April 16) and work on the road will continue until mid July, Horrabridge councillors were told at their March meeting. Geoff Willcocks, project manager for Edmund Nuttall Ltd, said his company would be carrying out works for South West Water, to enlarge a sewer in Station Road which is reaching its capacity. Traffic will be diverted around Pencreber Road and access maintained to properties as far as possible. Councillors expressed their concerns about problems with visibility at the bridge – Mr Willcocks agreed and said the company would look at ways to improve traffic flow and provide traffic lights at the bridge if necessary. He was also informed of the parking problems in the village and considered a parking restriction on one side of Pencreber Road would be a solution. It was also suggested warning signs would be needed at Grenofen and Manor Garage. Mr Willcocks left the programme and plans for the work with the council, and chairman John Tainton thanked him and his colleagues for attending the March meeting and requested the council be kept informed. Mr Tainton said the council was working with Nutalls to make sure businesses were affected as little as possible for the duration of the road closure. Police have been asked not to divert traffic through Horrabridge if an accident occurred, as the council felt it would cause a 'great problem within the village'.
