STAFF from two West Devon leisure centres broke into a 'frenzy' of pink for a breast cancer campaign and raised more than £500. It started as healthy competition between Meadowlands Leisure Centre in Tavistock and Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton to see which site could raise the most for the 'Wear it Pink' event. Parklands went pink and decorated the reception ceiling with more than 100 pink balloons and ribbons. Every member of staff wore pink. The best dressed award went to receptionist Heather Smith who wore baggy pink pyjamas and fluffy slippers. The centre raised £265.80. At Meadowlands, notice-boards were covered in pink balloons, and all the staff wore pink, except for contracts manager Phil Jones who will be 'fined' by both sites for not wearing any pink. Meadowlands raised £236.72. Contract sales and marketing manager, Lesley Muir, who organised the event at both sites, said: 'We had a fun day but obviously with the sensitivity the cause deserved.'
