MORE than 300 men, women and children in a pink haze set off from Okehampton Rugby Club on a sunny Sunday to raise money for breast cancer research. A truly remarkable total of more than £20,000 was pledged as part of the sponsored walk across Dartmoor. The walkers set off with a swing thanks to Okehampton Town Band, following a warm up from fitness guru Stuart Lord. Organisers expressed thanks to everyone who helped to achieve such a successful event, including sponsors, local businesses who displayed posters in their windows and local charitable organisations. Dartmoor Rescue Group and St John Ambulance and other volunteers also helped at the club on the day. Most of all though, they would like to thank the walkers who took part and walked through the pain of heat exhaustion and blisters to support such a worthy cause. The event proved such a success that people are already being asked to join in again next year on June 3, when the event will be held once more. Breast cancer affects so many people?s lives and the funds raised will go directly to help reduce suffering.
