THE Link Age Plus programme is coming to Tavistock next month, bringing an opportunity to contribute to the development of national thinking on services for older people. Devon County Council is one of only eight local authorities chosen to pilot this national government initiative, which aims to tackle social exclusion among people aged 50 plus. The pilot is intended to test the limits of holistic working, and join up older people's services. On Friday, May 4 the Anchorage Centre will host the 'Getting the Most out of Life' information fair and event for older people, staff and volunteers who work with them. Organisers invite people to drop in during the day from 9.30am until 4pm to view the exhibition, have a cup of coffee or a snack, look at what the pilot is doing and discuss it with pilot staff. Before lunch there will be workshops for older people, from 9.30am until 2pm, but after lunch, the sessions will be for front line staff and volunteers, from 1pm to 3.30pm. This initiative is being tested in Tavistock, Crediton, Exeter and Great Torrington areas. If anyone would like more information, or would like to arrange transport before April 23, they should contact Andy Lyle on 01822 616958.
