TWO of the Tamar Valley's top attractions can this summer be visited without a car, thanks to the Tamar Valley Line and a new pilot bus scheme running every Monday to Friday during the school holidays.
Starting on Monday July 27, the Morwellham Bus Link will coincide with selected trains arriving and departing from Gunnislake Station on the Tamar Valley Line.
The scheme aims to promote sustainable transport in and around the Tamar Valley and is a partnership project between the Tamar Valley AONB, the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, Cornish Mining and West Devon World Heritage Site (WHS), with additional funding from the Sustainable Development Fund. The bus service will run during the summer, linking Gunnislake Station with Bedford Sawmills car park and Morwellham Quay.
The Tamar Trails, starting at Bedford Sawmills car park, are a new network of footpaths, cycle and bridleways. The multi-use routes will allow free, public access to some of the most historic parts of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The pilot bus scheme, operated by DAC Coaches, will run for six weeks, until Friday September 4.
The bus will call at various stops in Callington, Gunnislake and Gulworthy, allowing people to alight at the start of the Tamar Trails or Morwellham Quay.
