VOTES are still needed to get on the consideration list for broadband improvement at the Tavistock Telephone Exchange.
Six hundred votes have been cast for broadband improvement in the 01822 areas in BT's Race to Infinity campaign to provide telephone exchanges with super-fast broadband, but at least another 400 are required to get Tavistock on the consideration list.
People with and without broadband can vote — all that is needed is an 01822 residential or business telephone number.
Local campaigner John Sheldon said the improvement of broadband would assist the generation of students involved in on-line learning, attract businesses to the town and increase property value. He said: 'BT has announced that 40 previously unplanned rural market towns will get super-fast broadband in 2011. These towns have not yet been named. It would be short sighted if BT ignored the results of their own vote over fibre-optic roll-out.'
Voting will end on December 31. To vote visit http://www.tavistock.eu">www.tavistock.eu
