THE pilot Bere Pick U Up taxi-sharing scheme, which was due to end in September 2002, is to be extended until March 2003.
In addition, the Bere Peninsula Transport Working Group hopes to introduce reduced fares for young people during the summer holidays.
An additional journey around the peninsula at noon each day has also been added — enabling people to reach shops and facilities in Bere Alston without a long wait to return.
Sonia Burgess, from the group, said the time extension was 'excellent news'.
'It means we have a longer period to identify what journeys work for the whole community and meet their travel needs. We really want to encourage the whole community to make use of this service.
'As a pilot project, it really will be a case of use it or lose it,' she said.
A return trip within the peninsula costs £2 and passengers are picked-up from their own front doors. Journeys must be booked the day before travelling, or on Friday for the weekend and Monday trips, on 01822 618028.
