CAMPAIGNING residents of Bere Ferrers are organising a petition and writing to John Burnett MP in their fight against a cut to their bus service.
On the new bus timetables, the thrice-daily service connecting the village to Bere Alston and Tavistock has been axed and a twice-weekly service to Tavistock only introduced instead ? a reduction of 30 journeys a week during the daytime to two.
First decided to discontinue the previous service due to lack of passengers ? on average eight a day.
The petition will be sent to Devon County Council and signatures can be added at the Old Plough Inn, the Lanterna, the Post Office and Bere Ferrers Social Club. Individuals are also writing personally to Mr Burnett. The local WI has already done so. The WI has also written to ward representative Cllr Gretta Madigan, Devon County Council and First.
