NEW traffic orders affecting parking and waiting in a wide selection of Tavistock streets have been provoking criticism from town residents.
The consultation period regarding the orders is due to end tomorrow (Friday), by which time objections or supporting letters must have been sent to the county solicitor.
Streets affected by the new orders include Bannawell Street, Canal Road, Carmel Gardens, Chapel Street, Market Street, Plymouth Road, Spring Hill, plus many others.
One Tavistock resident was so outraged by the orders he started a petition of objection ? more than 80 people living in different areas of the town have signed it.
The resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, said:? They?ve made no suggestions about alternative places to park ? I need tools for work, so it?s going to make it very difficult for me and others like me.?
He was also concerned about the timing of the new orders, many of which come into force earlier in the morning. He said people leaving their cars in Tavistock after a night out might be tempted to drink and drive, rather than risk receiving a parking ticket the following morning.
Residents in the Glanville Road area were due to meet with county council officers this week to discuss their concerns over the proposals to restrict parking.
Anyone who wishes to make representations regarding the new traffic orders must submit them in writing to the County Solicitor, Roger Gash, at County Hall, Exeter EX2 4QD by tomorrow (Friday).
