Duchy Premier St Dennis 2 Gunnislake 1 GUNNISLAKE made a slow start and were a goal down when a precision cross was finished off by an even more precise 16-yard header. The goal woke the visitors, who used the slope and a strong wind to mount a number of attacks before the turnaround. Clint Nash made a run from the halfway line only to shoot narrowly wide before he had further efforts just off target. Other openings came and went as Gunnislake only managed to score from one before the break. Albeit against the elements, Gunnislake were the better side in the opening stages of the second period. Nathan Dore rounded the keeper only for a defender to halt him. Stef Kelly turned well in the penalty area before being fouled. Dore shot the resultant kick wide. Kelly then produced a well struck volley that went just over. Saints got more into the game and an even encounter unfolded. Stand-in keeper Matt Avery made a smart save to deny Saints before they scored the winner with 15 minutes remaining. This had an element of good fortune as a miss-hit shot found an attacker whose effort hit the post and fell kindly to another attacker who struck home from close range. Duchy division 5 Gunnislake 2 Grampound 1 AFTER their hard earned point the week before, Gunnislake deservedly claimed this win, their first since the opening day of the season. They were the better team throughout but it was the visitors who took the lead with a somewhat comical goal. A long punt downfield seemed no threat until Gunnislake keeper Ian Gray slipped, allowing a Grampound attacker the easy task of scoring into an unguarded goal. Gunnislake grabbed two goals and the three points. Aaron Pethick scored his first goal for the club as he notched the winner after veteran Dean Martin had equalised. This Saturday sees just the one fixture as Gunnislake travel to Camelford for a first round Cornwall Junior Cup match, kick off 2pm.
