A WEST Devon residential home has been praised for its ‘outstanding’ care by inspectors.

Spring House Residential Home, in Peter Tavy, achieved the coveted rating of outstanding for its care services.

In an inspection by the Care Quality Commission, the care home was reviewed in five key areas - safety, effectiveness, care services, responsiveness and leadership. Spring House achieved a rating of good in four areas, with outstanding for care.

In their report, inspectors wrote: ‘People told us that all the staff and the registered manager showed them exceptional compassion and empathy and that staff gave them time and listened to them. One person told us: “There is a lot of love in the home”.

‘Staff skilfully reassured people. They showed that each person they were with was most important and that they were focused on them entirely at that time. Staff said they treated people like their own family, that they reassured people and “build relationships with people”.’

Matt Luckham, Spring House’s registered manager, said: ‘The staff at Spring House are amazing. They are so dedicated to their jobs and I am really pleased for them that they achieved this recognition. I know that less than one per cent of care homes achieve an outstanding award.

‘We just try to do the best job we can and treat people as we would if it was our own mum or dad.’
