EVERY four years St Peter’s Church, the Methodist chapel and village hall get together to stage the popular flower festival in Peter Tavy and for 2016 the theme will be the village itself.
The festival will start this Friday, July 15 and will run until Sunday (July 17).
The flower arrangers are planning to show aspects of life in the village, its history and its surroundings using a variety of colourful displays.
The topics will include farming, mining, beating the parish bounds, the village pub, the annual village fayre and the parish’s patron Saint Peter.
Peter Tinson, who has organised the festival said, ‘Our previous flower festivals have attracted many people from the local area and far beyond and everyone who comes along is full of praise for the ingenuity, originality and skills shown in the arrangements.
‘We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors again this year to enjoy our festival –and the refreshments available.’
As well as the main event there will be a small display shown in the chapel looking at the historical links between the village and artists who were inspired by the countryside of the parish.
Refreshments will be served throughout the three-day festival in the Methodist chapel.
All money raised by the festival will be equally divided between the village hall, St Peter’s Church and the Methodist chapel.
The festival concludes on Sunday with a special ‘Songs of Praise’ service at 6.30pm in St Peter’s Church.
The flower festival is running alongside the West Dartmoor Art Group’s annual exhibition in Peter Tavy Village Hall.
