TAVISTOCK Athletic Club's Peter Freedman competed as a member of the five-strong senior male Great Britain team at the ITU World Duathlon Championships.

The race consists of a 10 kilometre run, followed by a 40k bike ride and a final 5k run to finish, and was held in the grounds of Holyrood Park, in Edinburgh, over one of the most challenging courses ever set for a world championship.

Pete completed the first run in a very fast 31minutes, 02seconds.

The bike ride, which included a height gain of 700m, took a lot out of all the athletes, and was largely dominated by the Belgian competitors. Pete finished his ride in about 25th position, but then had another excellent run to finish 21st overall and third British finisher in a time of 1hr 57mins 35secs, helping the GB Team to gain a bronze medal for the event.

This was a superb effort from Pete and, once again, puts the club in the national arena.

On the same day TAC's Hannah Coulston and Jane Carroll both competed in the Bristol Half Marathon, Hannah finishing in 2hrs 3mins 42secs, and Jane achieving a personal best to finish in 2.15.23.

The Ivybridge Beacon Challenge is a smaller race, with 125 competitors this year. It's a scenic but challenging multi-terrain race set over 7.5 miles of woodland and moorland paths, and includes the ascent of Western Beacon. Pete Bazley, was first TAC home, finishing third in his age-group in 1.04.59. Next came Tony Shearer, second in his M55 group in 1.15.43, with John Marshall minutes behind in 1.18.58.
