OKEFORD Veterinary Centre celebrated National Pet Month (April 7 to May 7) by promoting responsible pet ownership and raising more than £1,100 for charity. On April 22, vet Olivia Hicks and nurse Kelly Ashe mustered their courage to do a sponsored tandem parachute jump at Perranporth, raising over £750 in sponsorship. A National Pet Month fete was also held at Okeford's Okehampton Surgery on April 28. Many animal-related charities had stalls, cream teas were served, and visitors were able to browse around many interesting pet health displays, while canine friends of the surgery had a go at 'Flyball' — as seen at Crufts. At the fete, prizes were awarded for a children's art competition. Vets Philip Davies and Olivia Hicks presented Cara Leahy with first prize for her collage of Fudge the cat and Scott Bending with second prize for his picture of a tortoise. An open morning with refreshments was also held at Okeford's Chagford branch. The surgery expressed thanks to all who supported the events. The money raised will be divided between the PDSA and the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Okehampton) incorporating the Search and Rescue Dog Association.
