THE fifth event of the Okehampton Cycle Club summer time trial series took place last Thursday.
Despite a strong headwind, a crop of personal best times were achieved by some of the nine competitors taking part in a ride against the clock on the demanding 11.2 mile course from Mole Avon to Whiddon Down and back on the old A30 road.
Brian Dixon again achieved the fastest time of the night with 29.28. Steve Podd came second with 30.37, third place and a new personal best went to John Short, clocking 33.24, knocking about two minutes off his previous best time.
Other personal best times were achieved by Tony Johnston, Dave Mills and Dave Baskerville.
Special mention must be given to 15-year-old Louise Amery, who on tackling the course for the first time, achieved a commendable time of 36.55.
