CHILDREN from Milton Abbot Primary School were from one of only nine schools chosen from across the country to perform on the RSC's Courtyard Theatre stage at the end of June.
More than 170 children from nine primary and secondary schools from different regions across the country brought their own devised performances of Shakespeare related plays to the Royal Shakespeare Company's Courtyard Theatre in Stratford upon Avon.
Hosting the celebration was comedian and television presenter from The One Show, Hardeep Singh Koli. Joining him throughout the day were the RSC's artistic director Michael Boyd and RSC actors including Michelle Gomez and Gary Waldhorn.
Milton Abbot Primary School's performance was entitled Mr Mac and the Ruler Army. The pupils studied three supernatural plays – A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest and Macbeth, and split into groups to come up with different ideas for different plays. They finally chose Macbeth, and set it in a school, changing the main characters into teachers. They adapted the play and wrote the script combining modern language with original Shakespearean text working closely with RSC director Chris White.
Stratford-upon-Avon based NFU Mutual supported the school's trip to Stratford.
