PUMPKINS galore were brought to Tavistock Farmers? Market last Saturday to be weighed and judged, despite atrocious weather.
Children from West Devon primary schools brought the pumpkins, which they had grown for a competition run by West DEN?s Good Food Project.
Hundreds of organic pumpkin seeds, donated by Tamar Organics, had been sent to schools for pupils to grow.
The pumpkins were judged and prizes awarded by Neil Richards of Tamar Organics. There were prizes for the best carved, the pumpkin with the most character, as well as for the heaviest. Prizes included a family cream tea at Brimpts Farm, seeds and a cookery book.
Cookery demonstrations were abandoned due to the weather, but chef Malcolm Morrison, of Hogs Bottom Garden Delight, had cooked items beforehand and there were samples of food, including chutneys and marmalades, together with recipe sheets.
