PEOPLE are being invited to have their say on proposals to restore Tavistock’s Victorian Guildhall and create a gateway centre for the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site.
On Saturday, December 3 from 10am to 4pm, residents and visitors are invited to tour the guildhall building and give their views about the project. There will also be an opportunity for younger visitors to handle historic police artefacts.
Activity consultant Andrew Thompson said: ‘The project team are very keen to collect ideas about how the story of this important building and Tavistock’s wider history could be told.
‘We also want to find out what heritage and cultural activities people think should take place when the building is restored. The intention is to ensure that this magnificent building will, once again, take its place where it was originally intended to be, at the heart of the community.’
Local community groups have already begun to give their views on the scheme, including the Businesses Association, History Society, Tavistock Rotary Club, Subscription Library and Brentor and Mary Tavy cubs and scouts. Other groups wishing to visit and give their views should contact Andrew Thompson at andrew@andrewthompson heritage.co.uk
