A DETERMINED pensioner from Okehampton is aiming set out on an 80-mile sponsored walk next month, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Margo McElligott is due to leave Lynmouth on Exmoor on May 6 with her two dogs, Mac and Moley and aims to reach The Tors at Belstone on her 61st birthday on May 10.

The long distance walk is all the more remarkable as just two years ago, Margo underwent a major operation to remove her entire gullet due to cancer.

?I was only given a 4% chance of survival,? said Margo, who praised the wonderful care given to her by Macmillan nurse Gay Hill after her operation .

Her overnight stops during the walk will be at homes courtesy of various hunts on the way ? the Devon and Somerset Staghounds, Mid Devon Hunt and South Devon Hunt.

Margo said she has had fantastic support while she has been preparing for her walk.

?I would particularly like to thank my neighbour Norman Todd and the Plymouth Inn for all their fundraising efforts on my behalf ? they?ve been wonderful,? said Margo.

She aims to walk over Cosden Hill to Belstone at noon on Saturday May 10, arriving at The Tors at about 1pm and would love to meet any of her sponsors at the finish.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Margo McElligott on her walk can send a cheque made payable to M McElligott Walk for Cancer, c/o 1 Chalet Trelaur, Simmons Park, Okehampton.
