AT just over 60 years old, Tavistock woman Sally Hough will this weekend be embarking on a challenge to cycle more than 1,000 miles in 16 days.
Sixty one year old Sally, will be cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for Independent Age, and her journey kicks off this Saturday (May 8).
After only one previous cycling adventure, travelling across Ireland in celebration of her 60th birthday, Sally will be taking what she describes as 'the scenic route', cycling up the spine of the UK and averaging around 68 miles a day.
Sally said: 'Just because you're a pensioner doesn't mean life stops. I love being outdoors. There are so many rules in other sports that you have to abide by, but with cycling you can just be free.'
Sally hopes to arrive in Thurso, the most northerly town on the UK mainland on Sunday May 23.
With her trip entirely self-funded, Sally will be giving all the money raised to older people's charity, Independent Age, which helps to keep older people independent and out of poverty.
