A NON-party group opposed to the Iraq War has voiced its backing for West Devon and Torridge Liberal Democrat prospective candidate David Walter. The group, Vote 4 Peace, says Mr Walter is a ?voice for sanity? because he opposes ?any further unwise military adventures with George W Bush in the Middle East?. Paul Hilder, campaigns director of Vote 4 Peace, said: ?We?ve chosen David Walter because he has shown he has the guts to stand up for what he believes in. He is a leader, not a follower. ?If David is elected to represent the constituency of West Devon and Torridge, he will vote against Britain blindly following America into further conflicts.? Vote 4 Peace was founded last year by an all-party group who say their aim is to have a majority of MPs in the next parliament pledged to vote against participating in an American-led attack on Iran or Syria. It is backing 40 anti-Iraq war MPs and candidates in the election with money and supporters from around Britain. Mr Walter said: ?I am very grateful to Vote4Peace for their support. On the doorstep in West Devon and Torridge, I find that the majority of people of all political persuasions had grave misgivings about Britain?s participation in the war in Iraq.?
