CHILDREN at Okehampton Primary School have been jumping for joy after the school acheived national recognition for its delivery of sporting education. The school has recently been awarded the 'Activemark 2007' for its achievements in delivering the National School Sport Strategy. Activemark 2007 rewards exceptional delivery of this strategy and Chloe West, national school sport strategy project director, has described it as a 'fantastic acheivement' for the school. The school received the mark because at least 90% of its pupils from across the school do at least two hours of high quality PE and school sport each week. Headteacher Brian Cunningham said: 'We have been recognised for the range, variety and quality of PE we provide that features in the every day life of all our pupils.' The delivery of high quality PE has been further aided after Manor House Hotel in Okehampton provided funding for the purchase of rechargeable CD players. Children are now able to complete their daily exercise to accompanying music no matter where the exercise takes place. Paul Adams of Manor House Hotel said: 'These CD players are helping the kids get exercise without being a health and safety risk because they are wireless, it's very good.' At Manor House, guests and staff donate money into a charity account. Each month the total is doubled by the hotel and the money goes towards youth sport development in and around Okehampton.
