A PROPOSAL to boost revenue by making West Devon Borough's car park at its Tavistock offices into a pay and display is to be discussed by the council later this year.

The move, put forward by Cllr Ted Sherrell, briefly came before the policy and resources committee last week and was rejected.

But Cllr Sherrell, who was not present for the debate, later complained the item was not listed on the agenda for the meeting and he had not been told it would be discussed. As he is not a member of the committee he did not attend.

He said: 'I was not informed that my proposals were being put to the meeting so I was not there to explain fully the ideas — which could raise a substantial amount of money to ease the burden on the council tax-payer, without hardship to anyone.'

Cllr Sherrell said committee chairman Peter Hill later expressed regret for the omission.

It is understood the item will be considered in the autumn after a decision has been reached on the five options for the council's accommodation.

Cllr Sherrell says a large part of the 92-space car park at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock, could be made into a pay and display to generate revenue. But the proposal has met opposition from council staff and some councillors.
