TAVISTOCK Farmers? Market, and many of our local shops, offer welcome opportunities to buy food in conditions which are fair to both producer and consumer.

Many aspects of world trade are less fair - the rules are fixed in favour of rich countries and large companies.

Local supporters of the Trade Justice Movement, backed by Christian Aid, Oxfam and others, are joining with people all over Britain in a call for change this Saturday June 28.

I would like to invite readers to pause for a few moments in their Saturday shopping, and join us in Bedford Square, Tavistock, for a short silent protest at 12 noon. If possible, bring household scales to hold up ? a symbol of fairness in trade.

Information about the campaign will be available all morning at our stall in the farmers? market, along with fairly traded chocolate, cereals and other treats.
