A NEW retirement development in Tavistock could be named St John?s Court after a footpath that runs along the nearby River Tavy. The winner of a competition run by development builders McCarthy and Stone was Michael Blackmore, 68, who described the location of the 51-apartment complex as ?idyllic?. Michael has been waiting for five years for the development to be built and is hoping to move in with his wife Lorraine next spring. Michael, who lives in Bere Alston, said: ?Abbey Rise, where McCarthy and Stone?s development is located, overlooks St John?s Avenue, a stunning, secluded and beautiful footpath that runs alongside the River Tavy between Pixon Lane and Abbey Bridge. ?From St John?s Court, there will be views across Tavistock Meadows and the old Abbey grounds, and northwards over the town, enabling residents to observe the changing seasons in a way that cannot be replicated in another part of Tavistock.? Built on the site of the former Superwinch premises in Abbey Rise, St John?s Court has been specially designed for people aged 55 and over. Apartments will be on sale at the new Tavistock development from January 2008, with a show complex opening in February.
