WHITCHURCH Wayfarers recently held an open meeting to discuss the future of the club. 2009 has been a very tough season on the pitch and even harder off it. The meeting was well attended with 27 members present. A good discussion was had about how the club can move forward and build on a playing season which has seen the first eleven consolidate in D division and finish mid table, the club reach the final of the Lancaster cup, the Under 13s win the league and the Under 11s be competitive, despite have little previous cricketing experience.
Off the pitch problems have been expounded by the club's ambition, meaning too much has tried to be achieved without the resources to carry them out. The season started with the Natwest Cricket Force weekend. Much good was achieved, but this left many people tired before the season started.
As planning starts for 2010, the club needs to reconsider what it wants to achieve with the resources that it has.
Club chairman Neil Tamblin said: 'We have an idyllic setting in which to play cricket, backed up by lovingly maintained facilities and a welcoming clubhouse.
'Also in these tough financial times the club remains financially secure. All we need now is commitment from passionate people to join the committee and help out with the work that needs doing.'
Anyone interested in joining the club should contact chairman Neil Tamblin on 01822 612021. The annual meeting will be held in the village hall at the end of November.
Whitchurch Wayfarers will be holding its presentation night on Saturday September 26. The colts presentation starts at 6pm, with the Seniors following on at 7pm. All club members are invited to attend from 6pm and stay for the evening, with supper being provided. A marquee will be erected on the outfield, so there will be plenty of space.
