INSPIRATIONAL music will be ringing the rafters in Okehampton in the lead up to Easter. The choir of All Saints Church in Okehampton will be singing Johann Sebastian Bach's setting of 'The Passion of Our Lord' on Sunday March 9 at 6.30pm. The work sets to music the story of the public accusation and trial of Jesus as told by St Luke. The Rev Stephen Cook said: 'It is a very appropriate piece for Passion Sunday as Christians all over the world prepare to remember the momentous events of Holy Week and Easter.' Organists and choirmaster at All Saints Church Ian Cann said: 'This work is not so well known as Bach's famous St Matthew or St John Passion, but it has an immediate accessibility to congregations and is very suitable for a parish choir. 'We have really enjoyed rehearsing the music and hope everyone who comes will be inspired as we enter the most significant part of the church's year.' The choir will be conducted by Mr Cann and accompanied by John Holland. The music will be performed in the context of a service in which there will be several congregational hymns. There is no charge but a retiring collection will be taken, all are most welcome to attend.
