A POST office service which will operate for two half days a week in Calstock, is the best the village can hope for, said the chairman of Calstock Parish Council this week.

The full time village post office closed last September after sub postmaster Avron Levine said it was no longer economical for him to run the service.

Determined not to see the service lost completely to the village, the parish council entered talks with Post Office Ltd to come up with a solution.

An outreach service run by Gunnislake Post Office in Calstock Village Hall will begin on March 31 operating from 1pm to 5pm on Tuesdays and from 9am to 1pm on Thursdays.

Council chairman Dick Hoile said: 'The post office is being brought back into the village and I think two half days is the best we could hope for.'

He expressed thanks to all his fellow councillors for helping to achieve it.
