SURELY it is a mistake to take a hard line on the use of Bedford Square for loading and unloading vehicles associated with events in the town hall, as reported by you in the October 7 edition.

Tavistock Town Council seeks to encourage the use of the hall. It should, therefore, insist upon the Highway Authority accepting parking on part of the square at such times rather than lose desirable revenue from potential hirers. And they should note that there is more danger from vehicle movements in the pannier market concourse than there is in the square.

Pedestrian protection can be obtained easily by fencing off a parking area between the central arch and Court Gate for loading and unloading during limited periods.
