A COUPLE from Christchurch in Dorset who chose to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with a road trip to West Devon in their motor home are proof that life in the slow lane keeps you young!
The Dents — Victor (92) and Joan-Marion, who celebrates her 90th birthday in September — have enjoyed touring for more than 70 years, as well as married bliss.
The couple began their camping adventures in 1933 with a trip to Abingdon in Oxfordshire, were 'free range' campers in the 1950s and proud owners of a VW campervan in the 1960s.
Their latest grand tour included a few nights at Woodovis Park near Tavistock, the ideal spot to mark their milestone anniversary.
And the secret to their success?
Victor said: 'Be the boss in your own house, but if your wife wants something done — make sure it's done!'
And referring to her other half, Joan said: 'If you tolerate them they're not too bad!'
The couple have three children, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren and enjoy living life to the full, but these days at a more sedentary pace — Joan-Marion likes to watch Cowes week from the window of her motorhome, tucked up in bed.
Woodovis Park owner, Dorothy Lewis, said: 'I was so delighted to hear their story I rushed out to congratulate them right away — it's not every day we get to meet such motorhome veterans.
'Proof that park life keeps you young!'
