AT the recent Calstock Annual Parish Meeting, councillors and members of the public were given an overview of what the parish council had achieved over the past year.

The list included the continued upkeep of footpaths, community and open spaces, organising of cemeteries and burials, the refurbishing of the Calstock play boat and maintenance of other play areas, various building work, road and tarmac repairs, helping to restore the war memorial, putting up new signage around the parish and taking over the cleaning and stocking of the public toilets from Cornwall Council.

The parish council also took over the checking of life saving equipment after Cornwall Council said it was no longer able to and has also taken over the leases of the four car parks in the parish.

Throughout the year, the parish council has given out grants to many organisations and charities, including the Calstock Footpath Society, Calstock Pre-school, the Parish Archives, Calstock Christmas lights, Gunnislake Christmas lights, Harrowbarrow Village Hall, the Rubber Band, the Royal British Legion, Gunnislake Festival, Calstock Primary School, Counterparts Musical Theatre Arts, Cornwall Contemporary Poetry, Latchley, Chilsworthy and Cox Park Show, Footpath Incline Calstock and Gunnislake Amateur Theatrical Society (GLAD).

The council is also currently working with the Calstock Parish Archives on a Heritage Lottery bid to help the group move into bigger premises.

At the meeting, chairman John Roberts said: 'I shall be leaving this post on May 19 and a new chair will be appointed. I want to thank everyone for their help and support — I have had a really interesting year and I wish the new chair the best of luck.'
