STAFF at Tavistock's Oxfam are soon to become part of the Oxfam online shop but are currently looking for volunteers to run the service.

Tavistock will join 128 Oxfam shops across the UK in selling donated goods online. Anything that has been donated to the shop in Tavistock that does not sell in three to four weeks will be put up for sale online.

Shop manager Jackie Theobald said: 'People think if it is not sold in the shop its going to get dumped, but it doesn't.

'Everything that goes online would have been on sale in the shop at some point. By selling online we can reach a much wider audience and we can sometimes get more money than we would in the shop.

'It's the local community that is pushing us to develop —people in Tavistock are so generous.'

Lee Nappin, who runs the Truro online shop, is currently training volunteers in the Tavistock shop. He said: 'We are currently at the listing stage. We are trying to get a team together and once we are sorted we can go live and make some money.

'Tavistock is now doing well with its takings and with the online shop it should become one of the highest earners.'

Volunteer Jan Jackson, who is currently training for the online shop, said: 'I am learning about photography and photography programmes, how to describe pieces — we need to know which items are going to sell.

'It's easy for people to operate and use and it's great for the collectors' market. It also reaches people who can't go out — an audience we can't reach here at the shop.'

The shop is looking for volunteers to help with packaging, invoicing, photography and listings.

Anyone who can spare some time to be part of the online team can contact Jackie or Lee on 01822 615534
