OXFAM in Tavistock and Okehampton will not be issuing carrier bags from now on, in a bid to be more environmentally friendly. Staff are asking people to bring their own bags along or they have the option of buying a Fairtrade cloth bag if they wish. Deputy manager Pauline Dhunnoo said Oxfam hoped to go bagless nationwide in the near future but was trialling a few areas of the country first. ?We are open six days a week so that will be hundreds of carrier bags we will save,? she said. For any surplus carrier bags left in the shop, staff are asking for a small donation, but they hope as time goes on customers will get into the habit of recycling.
